The Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce

The Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce is basically a business network that is not for profit organized. It is a Florida corporation that aims to enhance the business interest on the islands by creating a better understanding and appreciation of the importance of business people, as well as a concern for their problems. It also aims to educate and represent the business community in the city of Sanibel and prevent or address any controversy that may arise which is detrimental to business interests of Sanibel Island.

In accordance to the amended bylaws of the Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce, the corporation strongly adheres to promoting programs of a civic, social and cultural nature that may improve the quality of life and aesthetic values of the islands, and strengthening the chemistry between the residents of Sanibel Island and its business community. The Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce even works to encourage tourism on the island with the purpose of increasing the sale of goods and services by the Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce’s membership.

The Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce Seal

According to the corporation’s bylaws, the seal of Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce shall be inscribed with the name of the corporation itself, including the year of its organization, the worlds “Florida” and “corporation not for profit”. Also, the Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce seal may be used by causing it or a facsimile of it, to be impressed, affixed, reproduced or placed upon any document or writing of the Chamber where a seal may be required.

The Chamber’s Limitation of Methods

As mandated by the law, the Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce must observe all local, state and federal laws which apply to a not for profit organization. Also, the Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce must be no partisan and non-secretarian, thus it must not take part or lend its influence or facilities directly or indirectly to the nomination, election or appointment of any candidate for office in the city of Sanibel, country, state or national politics. This limitation may also apply when it come to politically involved community organizations.

Support of Charitable, Fraternal, Civic and Social Groups

The Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce, in the first place, agrees in principle with the legitimate aims of charitable, fraternal, civic and social organizations. Because of this, it is highly expected that the Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce will neither offer any donations of funds nor raise funds for any other organizations.

Membership Eligibility

If you are currently living in Sanibel Island and you wish to become a member of the Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce, you must then note that any person, association, corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship or estate having a particular interest in the aims or objectives of the Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce shall be eligible to apply for membership. The applicants are generally required to furnish to the Corporation upon its request, and if applicable, the applicant shall be required to obtain and maintain in good standing, all licenses and permits needed by any and all authorities in the government.
