Google Glass – What You Need to Know about Them

Before Google announced Project Glass in the early days of 2012, people were already fantasizing about a small piece of gadget that they could wear without having the need to put in a pocket. In this case, majority of them were thinking about a computer that could fit inside a simple piece of eyewear that could act as a camera, browser, and partially a smartphone all rolled into one. Remember those sci-fi movies with those high-tech visors? This was what the people wanted. Thankfully, Google came to the rescue and announced the Google Glass.

But what is it exactly?
Google Glass removes the restriction of data being stored in computers, laptops, phones, and tablets and allow them to be displayed right in front of your eyes. Google Glass is a spectacled frame equipped with a camera, battery, touchpad, display, and microphone. Within your field of vision, you can browse files, look up data, browse the Internet, or even take pictures. All of these benefits and more are equipped into what people will mistake for an ordinary and casual piece of eyewear.

This is all possible thanks to the display technology that Google Glass uses. The technology puts data in front, or to the upper right, of your vision thanks to a prism screen. The rationale behind this design is that it doesn’t obstruct your view. According to Google, the display on Google Glass is the same as looking at a 25-inch HD screen from 8 feet away. Although there’s no news on the resolution, people are hoping that it would be at least 640 x 360.

What can Google Glass do?
Of course, people already know that Google Glass can take pictures and videos, but other than that, some of them are none the wiser on the other applications that Google Glass can do. Google Glass can be used to get directions, but it has to be connected to your phone’s GPS system. This basically means that you can see the map from your GPS on your Google Glass, thus eliminating the need to look at your phone. In order to do this, Google offers the MyGlass app, which allows you to connect the Google Glass to your Android phone. Apart from GPS data, messages can also be viewed and received, and calls can be answered by using Google’s voice-to-text feature.

So far, Google has been mum’s the word on the full power of their new gadget. This secrecy is driving fans crazy and only time will tell as to when they’ll actually reveal it.
